FF+ blasts govt's India, Cuba recruitment drive

The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) has criticised government's continuous head-hunting in India and Cuba for experts to help plug skills gaps in the public service.
Last week, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, the public service and administration minister, went to India leading a team tasked with identifying suitable Indian engineers, teachers and informationa technology (IT) experts.
"We feel it's not necessary to go to India, it's not necessary to go to Cuba, we've got the people here. We've got the people who are desperate to earn a living again, to be able to support and look after their families," says Willie Spies, a FF+ MP.
Database of people desperate for work
Spies last week handed a data base containing 500 CVs of South African experts who are desperate for work. Today, more than 700 CVs, including seven doctoral degrees and 23 people with MBAs, are posted on the site.
"We will engage with that database, but it may well be that some of those people may not have the work experience that is required. I do hope that in the 500, many are willing to go to the remotest areas of our country because we also experience that people apply for jobs, but they are not willing to go to the north of the country," she said.
Fraser-Moleketi says recruiting abroad will continue so as to widen the country's skills pool.
