Santa Clara sees an increase in cases of dengue fever

SANTA CLARA, September 11 (Benito Key, Cubanacán Press /
www.cubanet.org) - Residents of Santa Clara say all signs indicate an
outbreak of dengue fever in the city and the government-controlled media
do not acknowledge it while exhorting the population to eradicate the
breeding grounds for the mosquito that transmits the disease.

Some talk about hundreds of victims of the disease, others mention
deaths. Those suspected of having the disease are admitted to the old
nursing school, now known as "Area 3," and subsequently taken to the
provincial hospital if after six days they turn out to be infected.
