Building collapse takes one life

CAMAGUEY, Cuba- August 1 (Marilyn Díaz Fernández, Lux Info Press /
www.cubanet.org) - A 37-year-old woman died July 27 when the balcony in
her apartment collapsed to the street.

The woman, whose name was given as Niurka, was said to have died
instantly, buried in the rubble.

The building, located at the intersection of Zapata and 16 Streets, in
the Vedado section of Havana, has been in poor repair for years, said
one neighbor, and the balcony that collapsed had been wrapped with wire
to hold it up.
