Food distribution delayed in Camaguey town

Food distribution delayed in Camagüey town

CAMAGUEY, Cuba - June 7 (Fernando Tabares / www.cubanet.org) - The
townspeople of La Gloria, a settlement about 30 miles from the capital
city of Camagüey province, say their allotment of foodstuffs under the
government's rationing system had not come through as of June 3. The
food is expected to be put on sale by the first of the month.

The items available under the quota are 5 pounds of rice, half a pound
of beans, half a pound of oil, salt and sugar.

The man in charge of distribution for the government's Foodstuffs
Wholesale Enterprise of Camagüey said in a radio interview that the
company doesn't have tarps or covers to protect the food from the
frequent rains and encouraged the residents to provide them.

Indeed, the area delegate said that every year there are delays in food
distribution during the rainy season.
