Staff Report

LAHORE: Pakistan's newly-hired boxing coach – Francesco Hernandez Roldan
of Cuba – has confirmed to take up his job next month. Roldan has
intimated the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) that he would join the
Pakistan boxers after the AIBA World Boxing Championship to be held at
Milan, Italy from August 28-September 13. Five Pakistan boxers have been
selected to participate in the world event. The Pakistan Sports Board
has acquired the services of the Cuban coach. PBF president Doda Khan
Bhutto and general secretary Muhammad Akram Khan hope that Roldan will
make a discernible difference in Pakistan pugilists' performance in the
upcoming international competitions – South Asian, Asian and
Commonwealth Games. "Above all, the Cuban coach will help a good number
of Pakistan boxers to succeed in the qualifiers for the London Olympics
2012," the duo added.
