Brother says Fidel Castro doing well
HAVANA (AP) -- Fidel Castro's older brother said the Cuban leader is
doing well and that the family will try to make him rest more before he
goes back to work.
"He is well, he's been resting a bit because of the operation he had,"
Ramon Castro, 82, told reporters at a trade fair outside Havana.
"It's been published that he's going to start working again. We're
trying to hold him back a bit longer though."
Fidel Castro, 80, has been recovering from intestinal surgery since late
July. After a month with no news on his condition, he appeared Saturday
in a video to dispel rumors that he was on his deathbed.
The leader was shown walking and speaking in a clear voice. He said his
recovery was slow but steady.
Bolivian President Evo Morales, an ally of Cuba, said Saturday that
Castro would return to work in two to three weeks. Cuba's foreign
minister had previously said he was expected back at the helm by December.
Castro's younger brother Raul, 75, has been in charge of the country
since July.
In Caracas, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez marveled at the health of
his close friend Castro, comparing him to former heavyweight boxing
champ Muhammad Ali, formerly known as Cassius Clay.
"He was moving his arms like a boxer (in the video), he looks like
Cassius Clay," said Chavez, speaking at the inauguration of a government
employment program.
