IAPA worried about Venezuela behaving like Cuba

The Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) voiced Monday concern about
the implementation in Venezuela of a scheme similar to the Cuban system
regarding state action against freedom of expression.

"We are worried about Venezuela taking the way of Cuba," IAPA President
Diana Daniels said during the opening in Mexico City of the 62nd General
Assembly.

"There are numerous legal impediments to freedom of expression." In the
Venezuelan society, Daniels lamented, repudiation of the media with the
slogan "kill the messenger" is being sparked, AFP reported.

As for Cuba, the IAPA president remembered multiple journalists
imprisoned after facing "dubious" trial.
