Coast Guard returns 204 Cubans to homeland

MIAMI – The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday said crews on several of its
patrol boats repatriated 204 Cubans to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba, last month.
The Cubans were intercepted at sea while attempting to enter the United
States illegally, the Coast Guard said in a prepared release.
The returnees included:
# 15 people spotted by the Carnival cruise ship Imagination on a
homemade vessel 16 miles north of Cabañas, Cuba, on Sept. 3. They were
returned to their homeland on Sept. 7.
# Crews from Coast Guard Cutter Vashon intercepted another homemade
vessel with 17 migrants on board on Sept. 8 about 65 miles south of Key
West. One was taken to Lower Keys Memorial Hospital for treatment,
another was sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and turned over to immigration
officials. The other 15 were repatriated.
# A fishing vessel was intercepted with 78 Cubans on board on Sept. 23
about 36 miles southwest of Pinar Del Rio, Cuba. Sixty-seven migrants
were repatriated Sept. 30 and 11 migrants are still pending disposition.
