Hating Michael Moore

Hating Michael Moore

Let's go out on a limb here and guess that the film airing tomorrow
night at the University of Miami isn't exactly an ode to Michael Moore.

UM's Institute for Cuban and Cuban American Studies is presenting
"Shooting Michael Moore," a documentary by director Kevin Leffler, who
grew up with Moore near Flint, Michigan.

"He knows the real guy, as opposed to the media darling Moore created,"
the university said. "Moore positions himself as a champion of the poor
and working class. Leffler's documentary shows how the renowned
filmmaker actually rips off and manipulates people, including the
'underprivileged' and less-than-media-savvy 'stars' of his films.
Leffler reveals the truth about how Michael Moore really operates.
Leffler traveled to Cuba and with the help of Dr. Darsi Ferrer was able
to show the reality of health care in Cuba."

Remember that Moore's film about health care in the U.S. irked the heck
out of many Cuban-Americans by portraying Cuba's health care system as
the best thing since penicillin.

On hand to discuss the film will be Jorge Utset, webmaster of
TheRealCuba.com, Julio Cesar Alfonso, president of "Solidaridad sin
Fronteras" and dissident physician Dr. Darsi Ferrer, who will be tapped
in from Cuba.

The film airs Thursday, June 5, beginning with a reception at 6:30 p.m.
and the film at 7 p.m. at UM's Casa Bacardi, 1531 Brescia Ave. Cost is
$10. For RSVP, call 305 284 CUBA.
