MADRID, Spain - Police in three European countries have arrested 46
people suspected of being involved in a ring that allegedly supplied
U.S. and European visas to Cuban migrants.
Spanish authorities say police there made 26 arrests, while 16 others
were arrested in Germany and four in Austria - capping a six-month
investigation.
The dates of the arrests were not given.
A police statement said the alleged ringleader was a Spaniard of Cuban
origin living in the eastern Spanish city of Valencia.
It said the suspects used forged passports and other documents to obtain
genuine visas for the migrants, who each paid the ring between US$4,000
and US$12,000.
It said most of the Cubans were planning to enter the United States
through Mexico.
