Human Rights Activist Harassed
HAVANA, Cuba - September 25 (Ahmed Rodríguez Albacia, Jóvenes sin
Censura / www.cubanet.org) - Cuban human rights activist William Cepero
spent a night in jail September 15 after being harassed by agents of the
Department of State Security.
Cepero, 42, is the delegate in Havana of the Cuban Foundation for Human
Rights.
His troubles started, Cepero said, as he left the home of fellow
dissident Ahmed Rodríguez. State Security agents waiting outside
harassed and threatened him, Cepero said.
Later, as he walked home, he was picked up as he traversed Zapata Street
and taken to the 7th police station, in the Playa municipality of Havana.
Cepero said he was threatened by an agent Machado, who told him that
unless he gave up what he called "his activities against the government"
he would put in prison and he would not see his children grow up.
Cepero said he had been held for 12 hours in a cell and finally released
after being issued a writ of warning, which he refused to sign.
