Prisoner loses conjugal rights over re-education program

Prisoner loses conjugal rights over re-education program

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, November 16 (Guillermo Fariñas, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Léster González Pentón, who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in the 2003 crackdown on dissidents, says his conjugal rights have been withdrawn because he refused to attend Communist indoctrination classes.
At 27 the youngest of the Group of 75, González Pentón said in a note slipped out of the Villa Clara Youth Prison that all other prisoners in his wing went to an audio-visual presentation November 8. When he refused, he said prison official Eraclides Peligrí visited his cell. "He threatened to withdraw my trimestral conjugal rights if I didn't go to the classes," he said.
"I am an internationally recognized prisoner of conscience, imprisoned unjustly because of my way of thinking, but I refuse to be indoctrinated in Communist policies which I do not accept, even if this means I can no longer see my relatives," he said.
