The trial of two Cuban dissidents and their neighbor, who have been in
pre-trial detention in Cuba since March 2012, was postponed for the
fourth time Friday without explanation.
The human rights group Amnesty International said the postponement left
the three Cubans in "unfair legal limbo." Their trial was originally
scheduled for November 2013 but has been repeatedly rescheduled.
No new trial date was set Friday nor an explanation given for the
postponement, Amnesty said.
Sonia Garro Alfonso, a member of the Ladies in White, her husband Ramón
Alejandro Muñoz González and their neighbor Eugenio Hernández Hernández
have been charged with public disorder and attempted murder. Garro also
has been charged with the crime of atentado — violence or intimidation
against a police officer.
The charges stem from March 18, 2012 when an act of repudiation was
staged at the home of Garro and Muñoz by pro-government Cubans trying to
prevent the couple from taking part in events commemorating the
anniversary of the 2003 Black Spring crackdown against dissidents.
Cuba's public prosecutor claims that Muñoz and Hernández threw objects,
including a television, from the roof of the Garro-Muñoz home at two
state security agents.
