Citrus fruits of Camagüey to be processed in neighboring Ciego de Avila

Cuba:
Citrus fruits of Camagüey to be processed in neighboring Ciego de Avila

More than 7,200 metric tons of orange and grapefruit harvested by the
Sola Citrus Products Company of Camagüey, will be processed as
concentrated and simple juices in the Ceballos citrus processing plant,
located in the neighboring Ciego de Avila province.

Engineer Orestes Reyes Pérez, director of Camagüey-based business,
pointed out that Sola Citrus Products Company has picked up more than
9,200 metric tons of these fruits by the end of September.

The executive added that the recent granting of land plots in free
usufruct makes possible to recover and improve the citrus fruits fields
in the borough of Sierra de Cubitas, some 60 km north of Camagüey city,
and consequently this will increase the yields.

As part of a program designed to diversify the crops, the Sola Citrus
Products Company of Camagüey already owns three comprehensive fruit tree
farms, properly irrigated thanks to equipment supplied by the Bolivarian
Alliance for the Americas (ALBA), and will deliver productions of guava,
mango, coconut and papaya in the forthcoming months.

Avocado trees, one of the fruits preferred by the Cuban consumers,
protect these crops against diverse meteorological phenomena,
particularly hurricanes which batter the island nation every year from
June to November.
