DECLARATION OF THE CHRISTIAN LIBERATION MOVEMENT: "WE RESPECT AND LOVE ALL OF SPAIN"

DECLARATION OF THE CHRISTIAN LIBERATION MOVEMENT: "WE RESPECT AND LOVE
ALL OF SPAIN"
2007-04-05.
Oswaldo José Payá Sardiñas, Christian Liberation Movement

The visit of His Excellency the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Spain
Don Miguel Ángel Moratinos has created many expectations as well as
questions for our movement by the press, by the political prisoners and
by Cuban citizens regarding possible meetings between Foreign Minister
Moratinos or members of his delegation with representatives of the
dissident community and with family members of the political prisoners.

The people of Cuba, the people of Spain and all public opinion deserve
the most transparent information.

We will not present an evaluation of the results of a visit of which we
have no information, but this visit is occurring at a time when
repression, the language of intolerance and the violation of civil
rights are increasing in Cuba, particularly against the democratic
opposition, which is all peaceful. We believe that the acts of the
government and embassy of Spain in this case have adapted to the
conditions of exclusion that the Cuban regimen has imposed on the
opposition.

The Embassy of Spain has taken the time to establish contacts with us,
however, it did not take the time to contact us within the last months,
and they only did so towards the end of Mr. Moratinos' visit, on the
afternoon of Tuesday, April 3, at which time we were notified that we
were invited to a meeting on Wednesday, April 4 at 5pm at the Spanish
embassy, after Mr. Moratinos' departure. The Embassy of Spain is free to
contact or not contact us. The Cuban government has said it accepts no
conditions, our movement has not established any conditions, but if as
it seems, the government of Spain does accept the conditions of
exclusion imposed by the Cuban government, we will not submit ourselves
to these conditions in our relations with Spain, as we consider them
insulting.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Cuban government, Felipe Pérez
Roque, has declared that "we respect the Spain of Zapatero represented
by Mr. Moratinos". We believe that the tone of this visit translates the
exclusion and intolerance directed towards the people of Cuba to its
relations with Spain, something that seems to be accepted by the Spanish
government. All of Spain and all Spaniards in all their diversity and
positions deserve respect and this is our message: we respect and love
all of Spain, not only those who coincide with us ideologically and
politically.
