Respiratory distress overwhelming hospital
CIEGO DE AVILA, November 6 (Kallan Poe, APLA / www.cubanet.org) - The
Ciego de Ávila provincial hospital, the Antonio Luaces Iraola, is
overwhelmed by an influx of patients, mostly children, with respiratory
problems, said sources in the city.
"There are only three doctors on duty," said Amo Rivera, a local
resident. Lines are long and the mothers say the children present with
high fevers and no one seems to know why.
Full wards have prompted authorities to open several schools to
patients, interrupting the school year for medical and education students.
