Catching a glimpse of pristine vintage cars while enjoying Cuban
holidays will hold appeal with many tourists - and one publication has
dubbed the vehicles' presence a "rolling museum".
The number of American motors that line the streets of Havana is likely
to enthrall visitors to the island and they are kept alive by the
"inventiveness of Cubans who create or adapt parts to keep these autos
running", reports the Havana Times.
Some of the cars have been traversing the roads for between 50 and 70
years and many have been preserved in their original style with few
modifications to their original specification.
Many inhabitants of Cuba use their wheels as a taxi service for friends
and family, so visitors might be surprised to see many people crammed
into the smallest of spaces for the school run or grocery shop.
Indeed, one holidaymaker was so enraptured by what he saw, he has penned
a book of poems about his experiences in the Caribbean nation. The South
Wales Argus has stated John Greeves has written about the cars in
particular.
