23 de junio de 2010, 16:14Havana, Jun 23 (Prensa Latina) The Committees
for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), largest Cuban neighborhood
organization, began on Wednesday a four-day surveillance operation
nationwide, with the aim of reducing the crime rate in the country.
Under the slogan For the Defense of Socialism, the 18,000 CDR areas
in the country, with the support of the police and other social
organizations, will carry out the maneuver 25 of this type until
Saturday, said National Surveillance Secretary Manuel Marrero.
"We hope that operation helps us to detect and correct deficiencies, so
that we can revitalize the popular surveillance in each block of our
neighbourhoods, noted Marrero.
Apart from preventing crime, the surveillance operation participants
will give attention to people in house arrest, ex convicts, and those
with criminal records.
The CDR, with over 8 million members of the 11.2 million Cubans, carries
out two surveillance operations a year, one in June or July and the
other in December.
