The March 2 concert by famed Cuban singer Omara Portuondo at the
Fillmore Miami Beach has been canceled.

The 79-year old singer of romantic songs, regarded as Cuba's Ella
Fitzgerald, won a Latin Grammy in November and international fame as the
only female member of the Buena Vista Social Club. But she aroused
controversy in Cuban exile circles recently for a Dec. 14 performance at
a political summit in Havana, where she was photographed with Cuban
president Raul Castro and Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

Promotor Valiente Concerts, which was presenting Portuondo's Miami
concert, did not give a reason for the cancellation, but ticket sales
were weak. Two other shows on Portuondo's U.S. tour, in Philadelphia and
Washington, D.C., have also been canceled. Her concerts in New York and
Boston will go ahead as scheduled, according to a representative of
International Music Network, which is booking Portuondo's tour.

The cost of tickets purchased via credit card either online or over the
phone will be refunded automatically. Other ticket buyers can receive a
refund at point of purchase.
