Venezuela to open "peace base" in Cuba

Venezuela to open "peace base" in Cuba

The Venezuelan government will open a "peace base" in Havana on Thursday
in order to analyze the "threat" posed to Latin America by the agreement
signed between Colombia and the United States that allows Colombian
military bases to be used by US troops, the embassy announced on Tuesday
in a communiqué issue in the Cuban capital city.

The peace base, an initiative of President Hugo Chávez as a response to
the pact signed by Washington and Bogotá, will be inaugurated by
Venezuelan Ambassador to Havana, Ronald Blanco La Cruz, in the building
that houses the diplomatic mission, reported AFP.

"This peace base will offer information on the topic and conferences and
forums about several issues related to the threat posed by these bases
not only to Venezuela, but to all of Latin America," according to the
embassy.
