WASHINGTON — Repression is increasing in Cuba under the control of Raul
Castro, and the domination of the government by his brother, Fidel, is
nearing an end, U.S. intelligence officials told Congress on Tuesday.

"In Cuba, this year will mark the end of the long domination of that
country by Fidel Castro," Mike McConnell, the new U.S. spy chief, told
the Senate Armed Services Committee. McConnell did not explain his remark.

McConnell, the director of national intelligence, also told the
committee that a resurgent al-Qaida has found safe haven in Pakistan and
is training new terrorists to carry out attacks against the United
States and its allies.
