U.S. Cubans urged to back immigration bill

A prominent Cuban-American has urged U.S. Cubans to rally around a
campaign to legalize undocumented immigrants.
Jorge Mas Santos, chairman of the Cuban American National Foundation,
called in a television advertisement for Cuban Americans to contact the
U.S. Congress and President George Bush to protest proposals that would
make felons of illegal immigrants.
''Today, more than ever, we Cubans should support our brothers of Latin
America,'' he said in Spanish.
The Miami Herald said the spots come as Hispanic communities across the
country are staging rallies to protest a fence along the U.S. border and
criminalizing illegal immigration.
In Miami, however, the response has been muted. The Cuban Adjustment Act
enables Cuban immigrants to apply for green cards after a year in the
country. Santos says he believes most Cuban-Americans favor legalization
for others, also.
