EL PASO, Texas — A Cuban investigator is back on the witness stand in an
ex-CIA agent's perjury trial and facing tough questions from defense
attorneys who claim the island's government wants to kill their client.

Cross-examination of Cuban Interior Ministry investigator Roberto
Hernandez Caballero began Tuesday after U.S. District Judge Kathleen
Cardone refused to grant a motion for a mistrial from attorneys for
anti-communist militant Luis Posada Carriles.

Hernandez Caballero has admitted to also being a counter-intelligence agent.

The defense has been pressing him about the alleged torture of people
arrested by Cuban authorities, and an objection from prosecutors has
sparked a heated exchange. Posada's attorneys are insisting the Cuban
government has tried to kill him three times.

The 83-year-old has been recognized as former Cuban President Fidel
Castro's nemesis.
