CUBANET
HAVANA, Cuba, Oct. 26 Leafar Pérez, www.cubanet.org – Polls conducted by
two independent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) show that 69
percent disapprove of president Raúl Castro.
The NGOs, El Centro de Información Sobre Democracia and Alianza Nueva
Nación, polled 1,000 persons in Cuba's nine provinces.
Those polled said that during Castro's three years in office the
country's economy has worsened, prices have risen, housing is scarce and
corruption continues.
They also questioned the police crackdown on crime instead of giving
Cuba's more freedom to open small business that would employ people.
Castro's support was lowest in the capital and generally among the
young, whose opposition reached 80 percent.
