HAVANA, Cuba - February 21 (Odelin Alfonso / www.cubanet.org) - Dozens
of police and members of special brigades launched a massive operation
targeting the satellite TV antennas that Cubans improvise to be able to
watch foreign programming.
The possession and use of these antennas, except for special cases, is
illegal in Cuba.
The agents, along with Cuban telephone company employees, combed the
roofs in a search and rip-up mission for antennas and the cables that
lead to them. In their zeal, say residents, they ripped up more than the
forbidden cables, because many complained their TVs were not working
properly.
This last operative took place in the Havana municipality of Arroyo
Naranjo. In previous days, similar dragnets were carried out in the
Havana municipalities of San Miguel del Padrón, 10 de Octubre, and
Guanabacoa.
