PNP caretaker found with Cuban bulbs walks free
Thursday, 28 May 2009

Image People's National Party (PNP) Caretaker/Councillor Andrew Baxter
and his son Jerome who were charged with unlawful possession of hundreds
of bulbs linked to the Cuban light bulb project, walked free from the
Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court on Thursday.

This after government prosecutors decided to drop the case against them.

However, a third man, Tashwayne Baugh, who was charged jointly with the
Baxters is to stand trial on July 6.

It is unclear what evidence the Crown has against Mr. Baugh who is now
serving time in prison for another offence.

Mr. Baxter and his 19-year-old son along with Baugh were charged in
April last year after the police seized 1,500 florescent bulbs which
were part of the Cuban light bulb distribution project.

The bulbs were discovered at a house in Stony Hill, St. Andrew.

The PNP caretaker/councillor maintained throughout the entire episode
that he did nothing wrong.

Mr. Baxter had explained that the Cuban light bulbs found at the home of
the mother of one his children were left overs from the programme which
was cancelled after the PNP was defeated in the General Elections.
