Vietnam pitches in with rice expertise for Cuba
Construction Minister Nguyen Hong Quan was adamant that Cuba's national
food security would be secured after touring of several rice
cooperatives in eastern Cuba between Sept. 24-25.
The Guillermon Moncada cooperative in Holguin Province is now the proud
owner of an average yearly yield of 6 tonnes of rice a ha thanks to
techniques and experience provided by Vietnamese experts.
The cooperative has benefited from a project, called Family-Sized Rice
Farming, that was deployed in 2002 with Vietnam's assistance.
Vietnam has also sent experts to help Cuban families organise themselves
into rice-farming cooperatives using Vietnamese farming techniques, from
rice seedings to the drying of rice.
