Cuban salsa star Isaac Delgado leaves Cuba, makes Tampa new home
Associated Press

MIAMI - Salsa star Isaac Delgado has left his native Cuba and moved to
Tampa with his family and is working on a new album, his publicist said
Friday.

Delgado, 44, who has released albums under the name Issac Delgado, is
one of the most successful Cuban salsa musicians of his generation. He
arrived in Florida last month and quickly signed with the William Morris
Agency in Miami. He will release an album through Univision Music
Group's La Calle Records this spring, said his Miami-based publicist
Adolfo Fernandez.

William Morris confirmed that Delgado was a client but referred all
questions to Fernandez.

Unlike other celebrities who have defected in recent years, Delgado has
stayed away from the limelight.

"He's working hard on his first single. He wants to make sure his album
comes out as soon as possible - this spring," Fernandez said. "When he's
ready, he'll talk to the press."

Delgado's album will be produced by Latin Grammy winner Sergio George,
who has produced works for top Hispanic musicians such as Tito Puente,
Marc Anthony, Jerry Rivera and the group Bacilos, Fernandez said.

He added that Delgado, his wife and their children chose Tampa over
Miami - where the majority of Florida's Cuban exiles reside - because
his wife's family is there.

It was not immediately clear whether Delgado would seek U.S. residency,
but most Cubans who reach U.S. soil are allowed to stay under the
government's so-called wet-foot, dry-foot immigration policy.

Miami-based salsa musician Marcos Domenech, 29, who left Cuba four years
ago, said he was surprised and happy to run into his fellow musician at
a recent party.

"He's going to have a lot of support here," Domenech said. "Everyone is
rooting for him and will want to come out to see him when he plays."
