OMAHA, Neb. -- Gov. Dave Heineman is just back from a successful trade mission to Cuba, which included a visit with President Fidel Castro.
On Thursday, the governor addressed the Latino Leadership Conference at the Qwest Center Omaha. He said the trade mission is opening doors for the state of Nebraska.
"We sat down with President Castro for about an hour or so, but the most important thing is to open up these markets. To expand this relationship into a long term, stable relationship for our farmers and ranchers," Heineman said.
The Nebraska delegation, led by Heineman, inked a deal in which Cuba pledged to buy $27 million of the state's wheat, beans and soy products.
