Women's Federation starts campaign

Women's Federation starts campaign

HAVANA, Cuba - August 25 (Ahmed Rodríguez Albacia, Jóvenes sin Censura /
www.cubanet.org) - The Latin American Federation of Rural Women has
launched a campaign demanding that Cubans regain the right to pay in
pesos everywhere on the island.

At present there are many establishments that only accept hard currency,
such as dollars or euros, as payment. Many Cubans chafe under this
arrangement, since, they complain, they are paid their salaries in pesos
and many don't have relatives abroad who can send them money in dollar
or euro denominations.

Leaders of the Women's Federation said they will collect signatures to
call for the enactment of a law that would "return to Cubans the rights
they should have never lost."
